The Voatsinapy School (The Mustards Seed School) in Antsirabe Madagascar is a private school for particularly vulnerable children, and run by the Stiftelsen Sennepsfrøskolen i Stavanger. As well as getting education and health support, the children are served one warm meal a day. The extension will offer a new library, IT- and sewing classrooms featuring exposed wooden structures, two apartments for teachers and a studio for guests and volunteers. The headmaster’s apartment will be in the upper part of the tower and include a roof terrace, which will serve as an outdoor kitchen as well as a viewing platform for guests to the school. A new curved staircase will connect the upper and lower floors and balconies, a tree will be planted in its middle – alluding to the school’s name and vision. Social meetings during- as well as after school hours will be encouraged on the sitting steps centrally located in the school yard or in a shaded working- and resting area, next to a new drinking water station.
