Planning

At MNDesign, we focus on the principles of creative planning and structuring. We aim to meet client requirements and handle projects of various scales, from smaller, more intimate designs to larger, more complex ones. We recognize the importance of both the overall structure and the finer details, considering the bigger picture while refining the smaller elements.

Planning with vision and responsibility

Our approach to planning is centered on creating spaces that are not only functional but also nurturing, enabling people to live, grow, and find happiness within them. We focus on developing concepts that possess inherent flexibility—able to stand the test of time and accommodate diverse users and needs.

We prioritize environmentally sustainable planning concepts, designing buildings that are energy-efficient and respectful of the given setting and natural environment. Our aim is to blend architecture seamlessly with its surroundings, creating structures that support both human activity and the natural world.

At MNDesign, a significant portion of our projects involve transforming existing structures, many dating back to around 1900, a time when much of Berlin’s buildings were constructed. Our approach focuses on creating modern interventions that respond respectfully to these historical conditions. Rather than replicating the past, we aim to introduce new elements that foster a dialogue between the old and the new, allowing both to stand out individually while remaining connected. At the same time, we stay attuned to contemporary architectural trends—not by imitating them, but by selectively integrating valuable aspects that enhance both the space and the experience of its future users.

A building is not only seen and experienced in daylight. At MNDesign, we are dedicated to designing lighting concepts that provide functional illumination while adding atmosphere during the night and the darker months of the year. Thoughtfully designed lighting brings a new dimension to the space, ensuring that it remains engaging and inviting, regardless of the time of day.

At MNDesign, we craft concepts tailored to the unique needs of individuals and groups. For individual clients, we seek to create spaces that reflect a person’s life situation, dreams, and aspirations. Our designs are personal, understanding that the built environment is a reflection of who we are and what we value.
For groups, we develop socially sustainable concepts that foster community, pride, and identity. Our designs are meant to empower people, creating a sense of ownership and responsibility for their environment, strengthening social ties, and encouraging collaboration.

Every planning project is carefully considered in relation to its context: the orientation of the sun, the room program, and the specific brief. It is also important to note that the outcome of a project is very much dependent on a series of restrictions and possibilities, including the setting, the client’s taste, the building budget, as well as building laws and regulations. We pay attention to these elements to ensure that each project is attuned to the needs of its users and its environment.

Sometimes, projects undergo unexpected changes or get halted temporarily or permanently. Even in these cases, the ideas, designs, and concepts that emerge are often valuable in their own right. These projects may be incomplete, but they still represent beautiful, worthwhile work and deserve recognition for their potential.
